Female car repair shop owner blazes a trail in UAE

Huda al-Matroushi is one of few Emirati women to venture into the car repair business, an industry that has long been dominated by men in the Arab world.

“I enjoy it a lot,” says Matroushi, holding up her oil-stained work glove. “Because I’m on top of my job, and it’s my business, I belong to it: I feel proud of myself.”

Cars have been a hobby for Matroushi, 36, since childhood.

“I like cars and their models and their details. I like sports cars, I like luxurious cars, even normal non-luxurious cars, I love them all.”

Why is there is a rise in fake jewelry scams in Sioux Falls?

Sioux Falls has seen a rise in people selling fake jewelry for cash in the past week, Sioux Falls Police Department officials say. 

In the previous week, police have dealt with three reports of residents being sold fake jewelry, according to department spokesman Sam Clemens. Police believe all three cases are related. 

On April 21, a white SUV approached a man in the parking lot of a gas station in central Sioux Falls, Clemens said. The occupants told the man they had fallen on hard times and offered jewelry in exchange for money to get back home.

Victoria Beckham admits she can’t afford a show at Fashion Week this year

Victoria Beckham has admitted she can’t afford to put on a runway show during Fashion Week in September.

Speaking to Evening Standard editor Emily Sheffield for London Rising on Thursday, the 47-year-old designer confessed her eponymous label is struggling financially after the pandemic. 

She also lamented that big labels such as Burberry and Chanel will be able to carry on as normal, confessing she’d hoped the pandemic would have ‘levelled the playing field’. 

The admission comes after it was revealed Victoria’s fashion label has racked up total losses of more than £46 million since it launched.
