Etsy courts Gen-Z with $1.6 bln deal for fashion reseller Depop

Etsy Inc (ETSY.O) said on Wednesday it would buy Generation-Z focused fashion resale company Depop for $1.63 billion, seeking to attract younger shoppers and bolster its position in a booming market in vintage or used clothing.

After a pandemic-driven surge in sales over the last year, Etsy, among the world’s best known e-commerce platforms for handmade goods and vintage items, estimates the U.S. second-hand clothing market alone will be worth $64 billion by 2024.

Robber Steals Elderly Woman’s Jewelry, Replaces It With Fake: FPD

FREMONT, CA — Fremont Police are investigating home burglaries and an unusual street robbery that happened over the course of a week.

Last Friday, an elderly woman was walking when a woman approached her, grabbed her arms, and forcibly removed her jewelry while replacing it with fake jewelry. The suspect got away in a dark colored vehicle. The crime happened at 10:30 a.m. in the area of Kansas Way and Ursa Drive.

Fashion designer Camilla Franks considering using surrogate to have more children

Camilla Franks, the high-profile fashion designer dubbed Australia’s “kaftan queen”, doesn’t really “do” regrets.

Still, reflecting on her three-year health struggle, which began with a breast cancer diagnosis in 2018 and this month required the removal of her ovaries, Franks, 45, wishes she had frozen her eggs years earlier.

Etsy buys secondhand clothing app Depop to tap into gen Z | Fashion industry

Etsy is buying Depop, the British secondhand fashion resale app, for $1.6bn (£1.1bn) to tap into the fast-growing trend of generation Z young people reselling clothes online.

Announcing the deal on Wednesday, Josh Silverman, the chief executive of Brooklyn-based Etsy said he expected the resale craze would continue long after the recovery from the pandemic, and that it would be led by Depop’s “passionate community” of fashion-conscious young people. “This [gen Z] is an enormous demographic and it’s the trendsetter demographic,” he told analysts on a call to discuss the deal.
