Mt. Juliet jewelry store co-owner charged in million-dollar heist

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A man listed as the co-owner of several Middle Tennessee jewelry stores has been arrested for his alleged involvement in a violent heist of more than one-million dollars in jewelry belonging to the late provost of Western Kentucky University.

Court documents show Marshall “Sonny” Belew, a 51-year-old man from Mt. Juliet, was arrested March 8 and booked into the Warren County, Kentucky jail on multiple charges, including first-degree robbery, kidnapping, second-degree assault and theft over $100,000.

Elsa Peretti, the famed jewelry designer for Tiffany & Co., has died, according to a statement from the company. She was 80 years old.

Peretti died in Spain on Thursday, March 18, according to a statement from her foundation.

“Elsa was not only a designer but a way of life,” the statement from Tiffany & Co. said, describing her as a “larger-than-life” person who “touched everyone at Tiffany & Co.”

Her death was announced in a joint statement from her company and the Nando and Elsa Peretti Foundation. The cause was not disclosed.

When Ms. Peretti moved to Barcelona to become a model in the mid-1960s, her wealthy Italian family cut off financial support to her. She became part of an artistic enclave that included surrealist artist Salvador Dalí before moving to New York in 1968.

Elsa Peretti, who went from Halston model and Studio 54 regular in the 1960s and ’70s to one of the world’s most famous jewelry designers with timeless, fluid Tiffany & Co. collections often inspired by nature, has died. She was 80.

Minneapolis’ JB Hudson sold to Gunderson’s Jewelers of Iowa

Pohlad Cos. plans to sell Minneapolis jeweler JB Hudson to Gunderson’s Jewelers of Iowa, a changing of hands at an unsettled time for one of downtown’s oldest and most recognizable retailers.

Gunderson’s is a family-owned jewelry retailer based in Sioux City. It also operates stores in Omaha, Fargo and Sioux Falls, S.D.

The sale comes as downtown businesses are reeling from lack of foot traffic, as office workers stayed home to curb the spread of the coronavirus and protesters flooded the streets following the death of George Floyd.
