New upscale jewelry shop coming to downtown Topeka, Kansas Avenue

A new upscale jewelry store is setting up shop on S. Kansas Avenue this fall.

After about 13 years away from Topeka, Midwest native Michele Billam has returned to the capital city to pursue a business venture that builds on her years of experience in the jewelry-retail realm.

On Sept. 24, Billam plans to celebrate the grand opening of MB Addis & Co. Legacy Jewelers, a store she hopes will become Topekans’ go-to shop for dazzling diamonds and sterling service.

“The space is meant to be a very high-end boutique — sort of jewelry-salon feel — but with the lens of attainable, affordable luxury for the local market,” Billam said. “My favorite way of describing it is it’s a modern Breakfast at Tiffany’s.”

The name MB Addis & Co., Billam said, is a nod to Martha Addis, one of the first female jewelry-store owners in the United States.
