The latest run of couture shows in Paris signaled a return to relative normal, as the balance between digital and in-person events tipped in favor of the latter, and more international guests returned to the city this week to soak up the atmosphere.

Balenciaga stole the show when the brand — led by creative director Demna Gvasalia — presented its first haute couture collection 53 years after the house’s founding designer, Cristóbal Balenciaga, closed his couture business in 1968.

The Best Street Style Trends from Haute Couture Week – Paris Fall 2021

The triumphant return of in-person fashion shows in Paris (or New York on a rescheduled date after a deluge of unexpected rain, if you’re Pyer Moss) also marked the return of the internet’s favorite part of fashion week — street style.

The fascination that surrounds fashion week street style needs no explanation. When the entire fashion industry gathers to celebrate a major designer’s new collection, naturally we want to know what fashion’s biggest players (and newest arrivals) will be wearing. The streets of Paris hosted swaths of attendees Haute Couture Week’s Fall 2021 season and when it came to street

Balenciaga seeks to reset the narrative with haute couture revival | Balenciaga

In his six years at Balenciaga, the Georgian fashion designer Demna Gvasalia has put Crocs plastic sandals and Bernie Sanders campaign merchandise on the Paris catwalks. The windows of the Avenue Montaigne boutique have framed a £1,600 version of Ikea’s distinctive blue nylon Frakta tote bag and, this season, a £2,000 hi-vis jacket in lurid yellow nylon.

For the first time since the pandemic, brands ranging from Christian Dior and Giorgio Armani to Balenciaga and Jean Paul Gaultier (with a special Sacai collab) are hosting real life shows, presentations, and appointments. Here’s what you need to know about the top trends on the runway that you’ll soon see cycle

Pyer Moss adds commentary on black erasure to Paris couture week | Fashion

Six months after designing the “new wave” coat Kamala Harris wore during inauguration week, Pyer Moss made history again on Saturday when creative director Kerby Jean-Raymond became the first black designer to show at Paris couture week.

Forty-eight hours after the original show was rained off by Tropical Storm Elsa, the collection – entitled Wat U Iz – was oblique and powerful. In part a celebration of black camp, it called to mind one of Raymond’s forebearers Patrick Kelly, whose exaggerated, racially tinged clothes told an off-the-catwalk story of American culture.

On Wednesday, Balenciaga showed its first haute couture show since 1967, when founder Cristóbal Balenciaga left the fashion industry for good. The house’s current artistic director, Demna Gvesalia, is known for shaking things up, but he made an enormous effort to pay homage to both the craft and the atmosphere of couture week, which has historically been much quieter and more intimate than Paris Fashion Week in the spring and fall.

The room where the show took place, for example, was an almost exact replica of Balenciaga’s original salon at 10 Avenue George V in Paris,

Since its inception in 2013, luxury fashion brand Pyer Moss, led by its founder Kerby Jean- Raymond, has continued to serve as a constant source of inspiration for the slew of budding Black designers following in its footsteps. With Raymond’s brainchild capturing the attention of celebrities and politicians such as Zendaya, Issa Rae, and Kamala Harris, just to name a few, the unapologetically Black brand is proof that you don’t have to conform to reach new levels of success. Its latest accomplishment is yet another example.

The brand announced on Wednesday that it was
