Paris Fashion Week, by and large, has gone virtual for the fall 2021 season. Still, there are some labels presenting in-person shows (keeping in mind health guidelines, of course). This means that card-carrying members of the style set are taking to the streets dressed in looks that serve. Let them inspire you to go through your own wardrobe, dress up, and break free from the sweats.

Feeling FOMO? What Paris Fashion Week Was Like for Vogue Runway’s Local Reporter

Here is where I share that I have not once left Paris—not even a day trip to the countryside, despite some lovely and generous invitations—since December 2019. While I can’t fully explain such self-imposed confinement within the confinements, it’s made me especially sensitive to the city’s adaptations, people’s shifting behaviors and moods, and the passage of time when subject to circumstances often beyond our control. It’s made me, in the quotidian aspects of life, consider the line from Lawrence Ferlinghetti, who died last month, “I am awaiting, perpetually and forever, a renaissance of wonder.”

At their best, Fashion Weeks serve

The strange paradox of the pandemic is that closing things down made designers aim higher. How high? Miuccia Prada went to the Dolomites, in northeastern Italy, to film her Miu Miu pastel ski suits and yeti-fur boots. She reasoned, “If I don’t do the snow this time, I probably will never be able to do it.” For his film, Thom Browne chose a black-diamond run on Utah’s Solitude Mountain, in part because it was close to the home of his star, Lindsey Vonn.

Louis Vuitton closes first audience-free Paris fashion week in Louvre | Paris fashion week

Louis Vuitton’s Paris show closed a catwalk season which will go down in fashion history not for a trend or a hemline, but for being the first to take place entirely without live audiences. Nicolas Ghesquière, along with most other designers, hopes it will also be the last.

The creative director said he stuck to filming a traditional catwalk format, instead of attempting a narrative movie, because “I wanted to do a pure fashion moment. We had everything except the audience. I miss you all.” In a zoom call after the show, he added: “Paris is a wonderful city but

Paris Fashion Week A/W 2021: fashion for life after lockdown

It’s no secret that a largely digital-only fashion week is a tricky event to master. Fashion shows function on suspense and anticipation, the expectation of an audience, the first foot on a runway, the inaugural beat of a show soundtrack, the force of the catwalk finale. It’s difficult to recreate this suspense through a computer screen. But for Paris Fashion Week A/W 2021, designers living in a city operating through a lockdown and strict curfew pushed on.

They even took advantage of the French capital’s deserted streets, presenting collections and trends for 2021, that celebrated the spirit of the City

Paris Fashion Week: Escapism, innovation and hints of joy

In late February last year, Paris was quietly falling into the clutches of the coronavirus pandemic as packed runway shows took place at locations around the city during Paris Fashion Week. Event attendees joked uneasily about adopting the fashion cliché of air kissing, and applied extra lashings of hand sanitizer as they compared notes about who was being allowed back into the office or had been asked too quarantine at home “as a precautionary measure.” Despite it all, the event was largely uninterrupted and most attendees went about the business

Victor Weinsanto Brings the Drama to Paris Fashion Week

You could lose your mind trying to tally the functional versus fantastical clothing presented and marketed for the fall 2021 season. The young Parisian designer Victor Weinsanto gladly offers both. As a part of the Dover Street Market Paris umbrella—other young talents supported include Vaquera, Eli Russell Linnetz, and Youths in Balaclava—Weinsanto is supported in both his frivolous and realistic endeavors.

The former category is what will catch editors’ eyes. Inspired by 19th-century courtesans and the theatricality of his former employer, Jean Paul Gaultier, Weinsanto cut crystal-dripped dresses and corseted zip-ups, many topped off with truly over-the-top headwear. One friend
