A Virtual Gem Awards Toasts to a Resilient Year for the Fine Jewelry Industry

Last week, the Jewelers of America celebrated its annual Gem Awards event virtually, a response to the ongoing global pandemic.

The digital event — which honored the outstanding achievements of individuals and companies whose work raises the visibility and status of fine jewelry and watches — awarded image architect Law Roach with the Jewelry Style Award and John Kennedy the Lifetime Achievement Award. It also took a heartfelt look back on the watch and jewelry industries’ responses to COVID-19, and paid tribute to the legacy of Tiffany & Co.’s Elsa Peretti.

Virtual FIRC Fashion Show returns this week

Family & Intercultural Resource Center’s annual fashion show, typically held at the Riverwalk Center in Breckenridge, is once again virtual this summer. The theme this year is decades of fashion, particularly the fashion of the 1950s through the 2000s.

People can watch the show on SCTV, TV8 Summit, Facebook.com/SummitFIRC or on the resource center’s own website at 6 p.m. on Thursday, June 24. The fundraising event is free to watch again as well, rather than requiring a $75 ticket, but donations are encouraged.

People can also visit the fashion show website to play trivia games about each decade.

VIRTUAL REALITY CHECK

  • Chanel will hold a virtual cruise show on May 4, staged in the south of France

  • Fashion weeks in New York and Europe are likely to include plenty of physical events in September, after three mostly virtual seasons

The Limits of Virtual Fashion | BoF Professional, News & Analysis

This month, fashion brands RTFKT and The Fabricant collaborated on a line of earrings, sneakers and formal wear. Priced between $20 to $10,000, the collection was sold on the online marketplace Dematerialised, which had over 3,000 users register for access to the drop.

In under 15 minutes, the entire collection sold out, a familiar anecdote in the age of streetwear. RTFKT and The Fabricant’s collection, however, was entirely virtual, meaning all the garments produced, as well as the fashion houses and the retailer that supported them, exist solely in the digital fashion realm. The pieces were issued as non-fungible tokens,

Paris Fashion Week: How to watch the virtual shows

Written by Fiona Sinclair Scott, CNN

While the novel coronavirus was the talk of the town in Paris during the womenswear shows this time last year, nobody could have predicted that it would continue to define fashion’s seasonal calendar twelve months later.

But Paris Fashion Week’s eight day schedule, which opened on Monday, consists of mostly digital videos and livestreams in lieu of people-packed runway shows. It is the new normal for a world that has been turned on its head.

From manufacturing supply chains to sales, all aspects of the fashion industry’s modus operandi has been challenged due to

Get Your Front Row Seat to Virtual Fashion Shows

It’s hard to remember now, but it was during the fall ready-to-wear shows last February that the fashion world first became aware of the coronavirus, even before it had been declared a global pandemic.

At New York Fashion Week the ripple effects began when some models and designers were quarantined in China. By the time the traveling style circus had landed in Milan, temperatures were being checked; by the end of those collections, Giorgio Armani had decided to hold his show in an empty auditorium and livestream it to an audience holed up in their hotels.

In Paris, masks and

Nolan: Do women have equal voice in virtual finance conversations?

By Allison Nolan

The new social media platform Clubhouse has been making waves in recent weeks. Some industry experts are saying it might be the next major social media platform. So, I was eager to accept my invitation to join and see what all the fuss is about.

This is an audio-only app where users can join chat rooms to listen or participate in the conversation by raising their hand and being invited by the moderator(s) to speak. It is exciting to join this platform in the early stages and listen to, and even ask questions of, some incredibly knowledgeable
